In 2001, Project Longhorn Microsoft's previous operating systems were replaced by Vista, which was released in 2007. Vista was the new operating system, and many options were available, which kept catering to different consumers.

 

However, it was seen that the corporate world preferred Windows XP due to its fast operation, stability and security.

 

In the year 2009, Windows 7 was released, which replaced Vista. On October 12, windows eight was released and brought forward some significant changes in the OS platform. This helps in improving the user experience on the tablets. After the launch of Windows 8.1, more improvements were seen.

 

Later Microsoft got into the gaming and mobile phone market. Again, it successfully captured big markets. As a result, numerous sellers are availing of the Windows Mobile OS.

 

In 2001, Microsoft released Xbox, and in 2002, it released Xbox Live. It made Microsoft second in the gaming market. However, the gaming console was powerful and saw stiff competition.

 

In the year 2011, Microsoft was known to acquire Skype for $8.5 billion, which is known to be the largest acquisition in the history of Microsoft.

 

It later competed with Apple’s Facetime and Google’s Voice. It further went on to add more features like the Xbox, outlook along with smartphones.

 

Cloud computing was another initiative, and there were enhancements in the versions; there were options to improve the database and accessible cloud set-up and compatibility. Apart from that, there were performance and program enhancements.
